NOTD - Boots 17 Holographic

Happy Saturday peeps! Had a super busy week of shopping, poorly daughter, her Halloween disco at school and general out and aboutness!

Day of rest today (and washing :( ) so what better to do than blog?!

So we all know holo polishes are big news, I have the original Gosh Holo   but am amassing a collection of indies now and they piddle all over it!

So how does a high street holo compare?

Erm, well it doesn't! I mean it really really just doesn't!

Excuse the little finger, didn't like this enough to start over!

This is a linear holo, and even in the sunlight it was hard to really tell that it was a holo :(

My camera struggled with this, although there wasn't really much to pick up!

Inside, and even now sitting in front of my window this looks just like a plain old silver/white polish on my nails!

If this is your first holo purchase then maybe you will love it and the plus side is that it is a million easier to apply than the Gosh one but still a good idea to use a sticky base, a coat of this, a topcoat and a final layer of this so as not to dull the holo

This is available from Boots stores for £3.99 but in all honesty pay the extra £1 and get the recently re-released Gosh version from Superdrug stores!

I will be doing some more holo posts soon as I have just got some from Models Own that look gorgeous!

Are you a holo fan?

Boots Botanics Cleansing Balm review

These were 3 for 2. Today I tried the balm.
First impressions, its smells luscious! So I scooped out about half a teaspoon, not used a balm before so was guessing! This seemed to be enough, I warmed it up in my hands and it became like a thick oil. I massaged it into my skin for a minute or two, releasing the lovely fresh scent.
I was quite concerned when I washed my hands to open the packet the cloth came in and it seemed to not want to wash away! I hate the feeling of stuff being oily on my face. But I soaked the cloth in hot water and gently rubbed my face in circular motions and after 2 goes of this I then followed on with cold as suggested.
Whilst I did feel slightly like there was an oily film on my face I just massaged gently and after half an hour my face just felt soft and clean.
Will this take the place of my favourite facial oil? Not sure yet, but the smell of this is much nicer than this http://www.dhcuk.co.uk/DHC/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=300 which is amazing, but stinks!
Time will tell with the balm, especially tonight when I take my make-up off! Looking forward to trying the moisturiser balm, that will be reviewed separately.

BootS No.7 Mascara

Exceptional Definition

I have more mascaras than I care to admit, or actually count. I LOVE this. Love it. Buy it, especially if you can get a lovely £5 voucher, as I did! I love rubber bristles, this is the only mascara I have used that doesn't require a comb through after! Love!

Boots Stay Perfect Liner

Liquid Liner

Well, Stay Perfect. Yes it does. In fact I still have mine on now, it lasted through sleep (oops!) and it has even lasted through my make up removal this morning. Great stuff. So I am sitting here now bare faced bar some bronzey gold eyeliner. Luckily I am staying in as I would look strange unless I do my whole face again. I do hope it comes off when I do my face tonight or I will be quite cross as I cannot use proper eye make up remover!

London Town!

Ok, so yesterday I went to London to (finally) meet some ladies who had shared the ups and downs of pregnancy with me in 2006.
Now, I will readily admit to being nervous as a nervous thing. What to wear? Make-up or no? What to do with my hair? I know that they would not care either way, but for someone with 'issues' it was a fairly big deal.

Anyway, went for soft make-up, which promptly got sweated off in a run-for-train-carry-impossibly-tall-4-year-old. Which we missed anyway. Damnit! This on top of the grime which appeared to just attach itself to my face made me wish I had stuck with my usual bare faced look!
So, hair, easy in hot weather ponytail, oh what a shock!

BUT....

I wore a DRESS! Nearly took it off again, but I was pulling on my trousers and just thought 'uh' sooooo in a fit of confidence I threw on my tights, grabbed my dress and put it on and then hunted down my beloved boots (http://www.schuh.co.uk/black-dr-martens-triumph-1914/1407187020/tt/1/) and told mum I was ready to go before I changed my mind, and my clothes!

I actually felt great. So I shall be wearing dresses more, go me!

I AM A FEMINIST!

Ok, so I am not standing on a kitchen chair saying this, nor in fact, am I actually shouting out loud as Caitlin Moran says, but hey, it says it loud and clear in cyberspace!

Now to be honest, feminism is not something I have really taken much notice of, nor think of myself as a feminist. That was until I started reading How To Be A Woman by Caitlin Moran.

This book has had me nodding, laughing and generally agreeing with everything written. Journalism job aside, it appears we have similarities in many areas.
Some I will not share! But I shall say that I have never and will never let anyone near me with a tub of hot wax!

It has to be said that this woman is now my icon, both in her ways and her style. I have often felt less of a woman for being unable to walk in heels, even though I too, have numerous pairs languishing, barely or unworn in my cupboard. If Caitlin can wear her boots with pride, then my DM's shall be my winter staples. Along with opaques, dresses that cover my arms and my trusty cardy! This is me, and I have someone to have an affinity with. This makes me gloriously happy. Yes, I still read womens magazines and may still hanker after a heel, but lets face it, I look stupid in them, especially after my 5th vodka and Diet Coke!
The fact she also mentions running trousers as her most flattering, was, in all honesty ever so slightly scary! Numerous times I have wanted to wear them instead of tights on a night out, purely because they pull me in and up and I lose at least one dress size!

Reading this book is really changing how I feel about myself, how I look, how I dress and just how I am. I am me, I like what I like and apart from some extra weight, I am starting to like the 'grown up' I have been trying to run away from for most of my adult life thus far.
It feels odd to have found someone famous who I can truly look up to, who is, in most part pretty normal, straight talking, no bull shit and hugely likeable and funny.

I do wish that my delinquent, teenage self had been filled with working at such cool places though!

My plea to Caitlin, WRITE MORE BOOKS, please!!!
